About Our Entertainers

Not For Children Only!

Mr. Dave - Something's Inside My Guitar - Dave Brewer has been teaching young children the building blocks of music for 15 years. He knows what works; talking to children as equals and not watering down the songs into goofy nonsense. Dave uses real blues, rock, jazz and classical styles to create an experience that stays with children and becomes a resource to them when they are on their own. He developes a relationship where they are filled with joy when they know they are going to have their music time together. You can tell in performance that Dave feels the same joy. Using stories, props, magic tricks and a constant thread of humor, children learn to read music and basic music theory while suddenly finding themselves dancing because they can't help it! When parents sit in they can tell right away that Dave is a parent too and he knows how to make the adults laugh on another level.

Mr. Knick Knack! - Mr. Knick Knack!, a.k.a. Steve Rossi, was born and raised in Northern Virginia. In 1998, while working at Border's Books, Steve started a weekend musical storytime program for kids, and Mr. Knick Knack! was born. Steve Rossi has been playing his heart-centered music for over a decade, to the growing delight of several thousands of Knick Knack Kids. Steve was named "Favorite Children's Entertainer" by DC Baby - A Handbook for Parenting In (& Around) the Capitol City.* He has been twice featured in The Washington Post's Weekend section. Mr. Knick Knack is the regular featured children's entertainer at President John DeGioia's annual Holiday Party at Georgetown University in Washington, and is the regular weekly featured entertainer at Tysons Corner Center in McLean.

Noland The Magician - Noland Montgomery specializes in children's and family magic and has developed completely different shows for different age groups and functions. But no matter where he's performing, he combines comedy, lots of audience interaction and award-winning magic for maximum entertainment. Noland performs at all types of venues and events, from the White House lawn to the streets of Old Town Alexandria. He was named "DC Magician of the Year" five times (2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010) by the International Brotherhood of Magicians.

Rocknoceros - Winners of seven Washington Area Music Awards, Scholastic Magazine's "Fun Finds" #1 Pick and named by National Public Radio as "Best Music for Kids and Families", it's Rocknoceros! As every family with youngsters in the DC area knows, Rocknoceros (pronounced like rhinoceros) is three guys, Coach Cotton, Williebob, and Boogie Woogie Bennie, who make wildly popular, award-winning music for the whole family. The three Rocknoceros bandmates "grew up" (if they ever did) in Northern Virginia. Boogie and Coach, best friends since they were four years old, remember endlessly spinning Beatles records in Boogie's suburban bedroom while "waiting for Williebob" who appeared on the scene in high school. The three have been making music ever since, although it wasn't until 20 years later in 2005, when Coach Cotton was raising young'uns of his own, that the inspiration for Rocknoceros finally crystallized. Rocknoceros has since dominated the Washington, DC children's music scene and gained significant national recognition as well.

The Banjo Man - Frank Cassel performs lively and engaging folk, bluegrass and original music for all audiences including kids and seniors at concerts, community festivals and children's parties. During the summer months, Frank performs at festivals from New York to Georgia. Locally, perhaps you've heard Frank play the banjo and sing at the Farmer's Market in Takoma Park, or at Jammin' Java in Vienna, or the Lebanese Tavernas in Arlington or Bethesda. Solo, or with his band, Mountain Fever, Frank performs folk and bluegrass music everywhere from huge events on the Mall in Washington DC, to cafes in small towns. His first album project, The Illustrated Nonsense Rag, now resides in the American Folklife Collection of the Smithsonian Institute. Frank has been the entertaining subject of many newspaper articles, radio interviews, and television appearances. The Banjo Man album project was inspired by the banjo show he does every Sunday morning at the Takoma Park Farmers' Market in Takoma Park, Maryland. These performances are attended by local children who now know Frank as "The Banjo Man".
